Help Save Britain’s Hedgehogs – Update

Earlier in the year I posted about the plight of Britain’s hedgehogs; an e-petition has now been posted on the Government’s website which reads as follows:

“We urge HM Government to recognise the shocking decline in numbers of the British hedgehog. We urge HM Government to give the hedgehog the same legal protection as the otter, dormouse and red squirrel under section 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.”

I urge everyone to not only sign the e-petition but to blog about it, tweet it, facebook it and to use any other means to spread the word so that hopefully these wonderful and essential creatures will one day soon be protected under law.

  2. I’ll definitely sign up. I’m lucky enough to live somewhere where they seem to be doing ok. I’ve seen a few recently when out at night for a walk and I know of a house in the village that has a family of 7 visiting the garden. We saw one the other night about to cross a road in front of a car. So we stood in front of it until the car went past and then escorted it to the other side. They’re such lovely little creatures.

    • I’m sure that we must have some around and about but I haven’t seen one for a long time. Very good of you to escort one to safety! Great to hear you’re signing up and do spread the word if you can.

      Jason.
